Bout of Books 20 Day 7

giphy (77)

Reading time: I completely failed at keeping track! But I think it was quite a bit.

Books I read in: The Refrigerator Monologues by Catherynne Valente, Penric and the Shaman by Lois McMaster Bujold, The Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling, Beowulf Translation and Commentary by JRR Tolkien, Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater, The Bible (NIV)…..

Books finished: 2! I read the entirety of The Refrigerator Monologues, which is an amazing collection of stories from the POVs of “fridged” women in superhero stories. I also finished Beowulf, which was also very good.

Overall, I finished 5 books during Bout of Books this past week! I had a great time, both reading and hanging out with all of the other readers around here.

Bout of Books Day 6

Only one more day of Bout of Books! I don’t know about you but I’ve been having a great time, although I’ve been pretty busy this week so I haven’t been able to participate as much as I would like to.

giphy (74).gif

Reading time: 4 hrs 27 min

Books I read in: River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey, The Complete Poems of Anne Sexton, The Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling, Beowulf Translation and Commentary by JRR Tolkien, Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater, The Bible (NIV)…..

Books finished: 2!

River of Teeth and The Complete Poems of Anne Sexton. RoT was a really fast read, with lots of charming criminals and bloodthirsty hippos. I wish it had been longer because some of it felt more like a sketch than a fully-painted book. Fortunately there is a sequel coming out REAL SOON! The Anne Sexton poems were really intense and WOW DID SHE WRITE A LOT OF POETRY.

giphy (76).gif

Goal for day 7: I’d like to finish Beowulf, and read Penric and the Shaman by Bujold. And all of the other things.

Bout of Books Day 5

Bout of Books is chugging steadily toward the finish line but in the meantime I am reading erratically and blogging furiously.

giphy (72).gif
as we journey into books!

Reading time: I did a terrible job tracking. I know I used my work breaks. It was probably around 1 hr 30 minutes?

giphy (67)

Books I read in: The Complete Poems of Anne Sexton, The Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling, Beowulf Translation and Commentary by JRR Tolkien, The Bible (NIV)…..

giphy (70).gif

….and I started River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey! FERAL HIPPOS, YOU GUYS. HIPPO COWBOYS. YOU GET A HIPPO AND YOU GET A HIPPO EVERYBODY GETS A HIPPO.

Goal for day 6: Finish River of Teeth! Do a challenge or maybe even more than one!

Me, trying to actually finish a book

Challenge: If you like ____, try _____

If you like mythology retellings, read The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White.

If you like Firefly/Serenity, read The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers.

If you like Harry Potter/magic schools, read Ordinary Magic by Caitlin Rubino-Bradway.

Goal for day 5: actually start River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey (feral hippos, you guys! FERAL HIPPOS!)

Bout of Books Day 3

giphy (56).gif

Bout of Books is a no-pressure, all-fun week-long online readathon! Say that five times fast because I cannot.  See my Day 1 progress here! My Day 2 progress here!

Reading time: 1 hr 49 minutes

Books I read in: The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan, The Complete Poems of Anne Sexton, Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater, The Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling, Beowulf Translation and Commentary by JRR Tolkien, The Bible (NIV). As you can see, I have zero attention span for a single book right now. I’m really happy to be rereading BLLB because The Raven Cycle is one of my favorite series and there is so much foreshadowing and complexity.

Miscellaneous: Do I get an award for biggest Currently Reading pile? Probably not, there are probably crazier people out there.

giphy (59).gif

Also, I did some reading at 4:30 AM because I had to get up to take some people to the train station. Unfortunately, I did not get to read at the train station.

Onward!

Bout of Books 20 Day 2

Bout of Books is a no-pressure, all-fun week-long online readathon! Say that five times fast because I cannot.  See my Day 1 progress here!

Day 2 was better than Day 1 but that bar was low.

giphy (53).gif

Reading time: 2 hrs 16 minutes

Books I read in: The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan, The Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling, The Bible (NIV). The first two are for blog series(es) so I have to keep up on the reading for those. Fortunately, I’m really enjoying both of them.. Percy Jackson is one of my all-time favorite series, and The Jungle Books is really suspenseful and thought-provoking (and sometimes just provoking).

giphy (54).gif
Padme knows all about being provoked.

Miscellaneous: I managed to use ALL my work breaks for BoB.

Good luck to everyone participating! I’m still hoping to get to some more of my stack at some point.

Bout of Books 20: Day 1

I’m participating in Bout of Books once again, because the reading is fun and the community is stellar!

giphy (47).gif

Day 1

Day 1 was not great. Well, it was great because there was an eclipse and my mom’s birthday and I got to pet-sit some amazing pets, but not great in terms of reading time.

giphy (49).gif

Reading time: 35 minutes

Books I read in: The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan, The Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling, The Bible (NIV)

Community participation: I lurked in the chat a bit but I was in a car on a winding country road so that was carsick-inducing. I just love Bout of Books Twitter chats so much!

giphy (44).gif

Miscellaneous: I read some eclipse-related myths for a Myth Monday post but I forgot to track that time.

So, all in all, not the most auspicious beginning to BoB ever, but I’m looking forward to the rest of this week!
